Template overview and my thoughts
I really wanted to showcase this template for making product spotlights. I feel like it lets us quickly tell employees what makes a brand or product stand out without making them watch a 45-minute video or providing unnecessary technical information. An article like this is something an employee can quickly refer to to make a customer recommendation or pivot a conversation away from a less desirable brand or product.
Every time we add a new product to our stores, a “5 W’s” spotlight ensures employees are prepared to confidently sell and recommend it. One of the biggest reasons I see new brands fail in my current role is a lack of employee knowledge and hesitancy to make recommendations.
Brand spotlight
Who is this food for?
Fromm Nutritionals is for the symptomatic dog. The target audience is someone who comes into your store looking for solutions to problems such as paw chewing, digestive issues, or mobility concerns.
The Nutritionals line costs less than many prescription diets that address similar issues. Because they are affordable and made with trusted, high-quality ingredients, associates can feel good about recommending them.
What makes it different?
The Nutritionals line is affordable and still provides quality nutrition. All recipes use whole grains and natural fibers to support digestion. This helps dogs maintain healthy stools and regular digestion, which is great for dogs with sensitive stomachs.
Sensitive Skin & Stomach and Digestive Support Low Fat both use hydrolyzed proteins. These are easy for dogs with allergies or digestive problems to digest and absorb. Each recipe is carefully made to be a healthy, practical choice for dogs who don’t thrive on Fromm’s core lines.
Formulas
Sensitive Skin & Stomach uses hydrolyzed salmon to help dogs with food sensitivities or allergies absorb nutrients better. It does not contain chicken, so it’s a good option for dogs sensitive to poultry. Added omega-3s and natural fibers support healthy skin and digestion.
Digestive Support Low Fat uses hydrolyzed chicken and liver to help dogs with sensitive stomachs or a history of GI problems absorb nutrients more effectively. With a maximum of 9% fat, it’s a good choice for dogs recovering from pancreatitis or needing a low-fat diet. Prebiotics and natural fibers help keep the gut healthy and the food tasty. This formula is for adult dogs only and should not be used as a long-term bland diet for puppies.
Mobility is designed for dogs that need extra help with their joints, and can also be a great choice to support their heart and brain. It includes chicken meal, egg shell meal, and plenty of omega-3s. Bone broth adds flavor and important nutrients like collagen, glucosamine, and hyaluronic acid. These help with joint lubrication and tissue repair, so this formula is great for older dogs or those healing from injuries. In combination with a high-protein, minimal carb food such as Ziwi Peak or Tucker’s, Mobility can also be a great option for dogs prone to severe muscle wasting or weight loss due to old age.
Where does it fit on our shelves?
If a customer’s dog is doing well on Fromm’s core foods, there’s no need to switch them. The goal isn’t to take away from healthy sales or confuse customers. Instead, use this line as an upgrade for dogs that need more specific support.
This line should sit between other targeted formulas and Fromm, to showcase the new line and make its purpose clear without an employee needing to explain. The Nutritionals line uses bold graphics on white packaging to help suggest to customers that it is an alternative to the traditional veterinary brands.
When should an employee suggest it?
Listen for customers saying things like, “My vet told me I need a prescription diet for allergies,” or “my dog had pancreatitis and needs low-fat food.” Complaints about hot spots, or “frito toes” are also signs. If you see someone shopping for joint supplements or medicated shampoos, it’s a good time to ask about their pet’s diet.
Why choose Fromm Nutritionals over a prescription diet?
Veterinary diets often fall short of their goals because of their ingredients. Many use fillers, low-quality meats, and by-products, and may not solve the dog’s main health problems. Fromm is a trusted brand that uses its own facilities, has careful test-and-hold procedures, and focuses on quality, meat-first nutrition.
How to build the basket
It’s easy to recommend extra products with these functional diets. Hip and joint care, skin and coat products, and low-fat treat options are all great add-ons. Fromm Nutritionals provides a strong starting point for increasing both the number of items per transaction and the average ticket size.
For sensitive skin and stomach, you can suggest a medicated shampoo or wipes to help with hotspots, or goat’s milk for extra probioticsProbiotics are types of beneficial bacteria. When they are added to food, they may help with digestion, improve gut health, support the immune system, and lower inflammation. More and flavor. Mobility pairs well with options like fish oil or marine algae oil for inflammation, CBD for pain, and whole-food toppers like Ziwi Peak. Digestive Support Low Fat might seem limited, but you can add low-fat training treats like select flavors of Crunchy O’s or Fruitables Skinny Minis. You can also pair it with low-fat hip and joint supplements, like Brilliant Bone and Joint powder, to provide support without causing a flare-up.
